The Ministry of Health is currently searching for a new chief medical officer (CMO) and is expected to fill the post by the end of next month.

Kevin Harvey, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, told The Gleaner that the current CMO, Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse, has reached the age of retirement and will be demitting office.

"Dr Bullock DuCasse will be going on retirement, so we are being proactive in trying to find her replacement," Harvey said.

Bullock DuCasse has been the CMO of Jamaica and technical adviser to the Government of Jamaica on all medical and health matters and connected areas since September 2014.

During her time as CMO, Bullock DuCasse has presided over several controversial issues within the health sector.

Harvey explained that a senior officer of the health ministry will be appointed to act in the position until the official recruitment process is complete.

Bullock Ducasse has served as senior medical officer and director of the Emergency Disaster Management and Special Services in the ministry.
