Youth Ambassador wants urgent revision of youth policy

Jamaica Youth Ambassador Sujae Boswell on Friday applauded the presentation to the Sectoral Debate made by Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Floyd Green as inspiring.

Boswell said it was encouraging to see the minister place emphasis on the completion of the renewed National Youth Policy. He urged Green to deliver on this "vital" plan.

"As a youth representative, I am particularly pleased with the focus which has been given to youth engagement and youth empowerment. The strengthening of the National Secondary Students' Council, obtaining legal status for the National Youth Council, the reintroduction and rebranding of the National Youth Parliament, and the establishment of a Youth Advisory Council are significant in giving young people the opportunity to not only advocate on their own behalf, but to contribute to discussions of national importance," Boswell stated.

"It is time, however, for delivery. Time and time again, we hear expressions of plans but nothing tangible to hold on to at the end of the day. I truly hope it is a changing of the game so that it all may redound to the benefit of the young people I represent." Boswell said.
