The country's Political Ombudsman Donna Parch-ment Brown says her office has opted to support the investigations initiated by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) earlier this week into allegations that there was a system in place for the People's National Party (PNP) to receive kickbacks while in government.

Parchment Brown said she would be willing to share, with the contractor general's office, information received by her office to "facilitate a timely and complete report from the OCG".

She said she would also act on the findings.

Parchment Brown noted that her duty would be to make recommendations to the prime minister and the leader of the opposition and other persons involved in the matter within the political party.

The political ombudsman is empowered under The Political Ombudsman (Interim) Act to investigate complaints made to her office or by her own decision.

She is also guided by the standards set out in the Agreement and Declaration on Political Conduct (Code) signed in Parliament on September 20, 2005.
