Portmore municipality clears blocked drains, acting mayor appeals for evacuation
Acting Mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, says the Portmore Municipal Council has cleared blocked drains which resulted in the flooding of Caymanas Gardens Site A in the municipality.
Several homes in the community were flooded following a heavy downpour yesterday.
Mr. Thomas says the council has since addressed the problem as well as other flooding issues in other communities in the municipality.
Meanwhile, the acting Portmore mayor is appealing to persons living in flood prone areas such as in Hellshire Beach and Port Henderson Road to evacuate.
He says the municipal council is keeping a close watch on the Hellshire Main Road noting that this main thoroughfare is at risk of major flooding.
Mr. Thomas says heavy duty equipment have been positioned at key sites across the municipality to respond quickly to emergencies.
He was speaking in an interview this morning on Power 106 FM.
