Don't dump tree branches on street - NSWMA
The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) yesterday pleaded with persons to desist from placing cuttings from trees along roadways, as they will ultimately be washed into drains and gullies and create opportunities for flooding.
"We wish to remind the public that we have suspended collection until after the passage of Hurricane Matthew," the NSWMA said in a statement yesterday.
"Immediately after, the clearing of debris and the removal of solid waste from main roads will be our priority, and we assure the public that all efforts will be made to do timely collection of these items along with scheduled residential collection."
The NSWMA added: "We take this opportunity to encourage everyone to take all necessary precaution to safeguard lives and properties against the impact of Hurricane Matthew and to remain indoors. Members of the public may contact us at 1-888-253-2562 and 448-3220 or send email to email@example.com for updates."
