Holness saddened by death of JDF soldier in crash

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed sadness at the death of Jamaica Defence Force soldier Private Stephen Hewitt who was killed in a crash in Hanover on Tuesday.

Private Hewitt died along the Cousin's Cove main road near Green Island as he and three colleagues were returning to base following an operation.

The three other soldiers were injured.

In a statement this afternoon, Holness, who is also the head of the Defence Board, said he has called the relatives of Private Hewitt to extend condolences.

He said Private Hewitt gave dedicated service to his country.

The Prime Minister said the country stands with the JDF and Private Hewitt’s family and friends in their moment of grief and also wished a speedy recovery for the other soldiers.
