We are just a call away - Patterson
Former People's National Party (PNP) President P.J. Patterson yesterday told supporters attending the public session of the party's 79th annual conference that although retired and in the political pavilion with his immediate successor, Portia Simpson Miller, he was ready to assist if called.
Labelling his address a T20 innings, because of time constraints, he said the party was lucky to have two former presidents and prime ministers on the same platform for a conference.
Calling Dr Peter Phillips the fifth leader and next "prime minister of Jamaica", Patterson, the nation's longest-serving prime minister, said he was proud of the work Phillips has done since his acceptance speech last year. Pointing to the efforts of Phillips and the party, he made it clear that organisational work and unity were the PNP's best route to power.
"... When the PNP is truly united, we are invincible," Patterson said.
He saluted Simpson Miller for years of dedicated and courageous leadership of the party and Jamaica, adding that they are willing to don gear for the political trenches in South East St Mary on behalf of candidate Shane Alexis.
