Justice Adrian Saunders is to become the next president of the Caribbean Court of Justice.

The sitting president Sir Dennis Byron made the announcement Friday.

Saunders, who is from St Vincent and the Grenadines has been a judge with the Court from its inception in 2001.

Byron is in his final year in office.

According to Byron, the CCJ is poised to contribute to positive change in the social order of Caribbean societies by delivering justice which is accessible, efficient and reflective of the Caribbean values and mores.

He also said the use of technology has made a difference in the operations of the CCJ.

"This increased efficiency has resulted in a tremendous improvement to access to the court," he said.

Byron said in the calendar year 2016, 18 cases were filed in the Appellate Jurisdiction, and 35 cases in 2017 - a 94 per cent increase.

He noted that most cases at the CCJ are disposed of within six months of filing.
