Police constable arrested for robbery

Manchioneal, Portland:

A Constable attached to the St Thomas police is now in custody in connection with the armed robbery of a businesswoman in Manchioneal, Portland on Monday.

According to police sources, at about 4 a.m. the businesswoman reportedly closed her bar and night club - after hosting a round-robin event - in the east Portland community of Fort in Manchioneal.

Further reports indicated that the businesswoman drove to her house, with three other persons accompanying her. Upon their arrival, they were pounced upon by three armed men, who robbed the businesswoman of approximately $700,000.

The woman, along with the three other occupants in her car, was physically assaulted and threatened by the armed thugs, who then made their escape into nearby bushes.

An intense investigation led to the arrest of a man who was later identified as one of those involved in the robbery. During interrogation carried out by detectives from the Port Antonio Criminal Investigative Branch, it was discovered that the suspect was a Jamaica Constabulary Force constable. The Portland police are investigating.
