Big boost for Ocho Rios - Palace Resorts to pump US$270m into new property and millions more to upgrade the town
After four years of operating in Jamaica, the Mexican entity Palace Resorts is to spend US$270 million to expand its footprint in the island.
The hotel brand will design and construct a new property with an additional 750 rooms following the purchase of the Rooms on the Beach property in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
Additionally, the company has committed to working with the Government of Jamaica, through the Urban Development Corporation, to fast-track the development of the epicentre of Jamaica, Ocho Rios, by boosting the region, with plans to add even more sophistication, panache and beauty to the tourist Mecca as part of its focus on a luxury market.
BENEFITS FOR ALL
According to Clifton Reader, managing director of Moon Palace Jamaica, the implementation of the upgrades to the town of Ocho Rios will benefit the tourism industry as well as residents and the business community.
Reader said that Palace Resorts, which already operates Moon Palace Jamaica in Ocho Rios, is committed to the growth and development of Ocho Rios as is demonstrated in the proposed master plan for the town.
Designed by world-renowned designer Francois Frossard, the blueprints include a gorgeous pier with a multitude of dining options, a renovated public beach, a boardwalk, snack bars, as well as a sand-based soccer field and an open-air craft market featuring local artisan items.
He said that at more than US$300,000 per key, the expansion and development project will leave a positive mark on the island, including the addition of at least 3,500 more direct jobs for Jamaicans, plus the opportunity for more than 200 existing employees to further their growth track within the organisation upon project completion.
