St James Showing worst drought condition up to September
At the end of September, St James was showing the worst drought conditions across the country, according to the latest data from the National Meteorological Service.
Responding to queries from The Gleaner about the current drought conditions, the Met Office indicated that the parish showed extremely dry conditions for the second bi-monthly period.
Portland has, however, shown tremendous improvement, reporting normal drought, which means that the parish was very close to coming out of that condition.
"This is a significant improvement compared to the July-August period when it was reporting moderately dry conditions," the Met office said.
A drought watch was issued for Portland arising from dry conditions. A recent interview with the National Water Commission also indicated that Portland was still experiencing limited water supply owing to worsening dry conditions.
