Pompeo to visit Jamaica next week
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be in Jamaica on a two-day working visit, beginning next Tuesday.
He is due to arrive on January 21, when he will have meetings with Prime Minister Andrew Holness and several other Caribbean leaders.
He is expected to discuss a range of matters, including the recent flare-up in the Middle East and outstanding issues pertaining to Venezuela.
His visit comes almost a year after Holness and four other Caribbean leaders flew to Mar-a-Lago Estate to meet with President Donald Trump.
Trump dangled investment opportunities to the Caribbean leaders who had voted against the Maduro regime in an Organization of American States forum. Trump promised to send a high-level delegation from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the US development lender, to visit each nation within a 90-day period.
When pressed yesterday, the United States Embassy in Kingston said it was unable to confirm the visit.
