St Mary schoolgirl washed away while crossing river

The search is continuing for an eight-year-old female student who was washed away while attempting to cross a river in Epsom, St Mary yesterday afternoon.

The student attends the Epsom Primary School in the parish.  

The police say the misfortune happened shortly after 3 p.m.

Divers and rescuer workers including members of the fire department unsuccessfully searched for the child into late Monday evening. 

Residents and other persons have now joined in the search.
