"You have to stay far due to COVID," said a police officer as a reporter from The Gleaner turned up at the Manchester Central Nomination Centre.

Members of the media were this morning barred from the compound of the Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (ECJ) where  candidates for Manchester Central are being nominated.

According to a release from the EJC , members of the media would not be allowed inside the nomination centres but would be allowed on the compound to cover activities.

However, this morning, that was not the reality in Mandeville until an ECJ representative intervened.

"You have to stay far due to COVID. We don't know of any release," said a police officer.

A few minutes later, an ECJ representative intervened, apologised for the miscommunication and soon secured a place for the media to conduct interviews.

The Jamaica Labour Party's Rhoda Crawford is to challenge the People's National Party's Peter Bunting for the seat in the September 3 polls.
