THE EDITOR, Sir:

The 8 p.m. newscast of CVM TV on July 17, 2014 reported on a raid of an illegal manufacturing operation of Clarks shoes.

I agree that the people who have been arrested were operating illegally. I also agree that they should have gone through the proper channels by obtaining proper licensing. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Though their operation was unjustified, it is proof that Jamaicans have a desire to work and prefer to do so instead of taking up guns or knives.

This should also be an eye-opener to the Government. It is time for both parties to put people first and make it possible that this kind of thing will not happen again. These people need financial assistance and guidance. They have the skill, are hard-working people, and will try their hands at anything in order to feed their families.

Please allow these people to continue, but only through the proper channels.
