Ishawna-Foota Hype bedroom drama trauma
THE EDITOR, Sir: It appears that the Broadcasting Commission and CVM TV have conspired to ensure that programmes with content not appropriate for broadcast in certain time slots are, in fact, aired at those times.
The Winford Williams 'On Stage' programme, known for its dancehall-laced, risqué video clips and interviews, sank to a new low in a rebroadcast on Monday, September 22, between 6 and 7 p.m.
In this prime-time slot, when most children would be finished with their homework and likely to be watching TV, Williams had as his guest well-known selector, Foota Hype, who is the apparent estranged boyfriend of dancehall artiste lshawna, Foota was asked by Williams what led to the break-up with lshawna. Williams was told that he, Foota, had refused to go along with Ishawna's sexual preferences, described in details that I wouldn't care to mention here. This section of the interview was also interspersed with video clips of Ishawna gyrating under the sheets in a scene shot in a bedroom.
It is clear to me that the Cordel Green-led Broadcasting Commission is doing a very poor job of monitoring and enforcing the guidelines that have been developed and legislated for free-to-air programming. Maybe it's time for new leadership at the commission.
And while we are at it, it's full time the owners of CVM TV get their act together. From 'Heil Hitler' to near-porn programming content, it's a bit much.
