Target plants that gobble up mosquitoes

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The newest and most sizzling talk is that the Government is exploring the option to import genetically modified mosquitoes in the island to help control the chikungunya virus that is now an epidemic.

This chikungunya virus is no respecter of persons, and it would seem no amount of boosting up your system will stop it from attacking your body, speaking from experience, of course.

find a solution

Chik-V gave no warning. It gripped my knee and weakened it. Before the evening was out, I became a trembling, helpless, feeble individual. It really was like slow death. So if others can be spared from it, by all means, I would like the Government to find a solution.

If genetically modified mosquitoes can be considered, surely it's worth exploring several species of carnivorous plants that eat mosquitoes, e.g., the Venus fly trap, sundew plant, etc. These predatory plants manufacture their own food through photosynthesis, but they also eat insects such as mosquitoes to supplement their nutrition. These can be planted all over the country to help combat the influx of mosquitoes.
