Drought, epidemics a wake-up call from God
Drought, epidemics a
wake-up call from God
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Jamaica is experiencing an unusual time in history. Just a few months ago, we had an unusual drought, and right after that, we are plagued with an epidemic. Does this cause anyone to stop and think? Well, I do.
One might say Jamaica is such a prayerful country, but are the sins many and great in the midst of it all? When a child can stand and witness his parents brutally killed, something is radically wrong.
When the Lord punishes, He begins with His people first. How will it end with those who are not His people? 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 states: "Whenever I hold back the rain, or send an epidemic on My people, if they pray to Me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven, forgive their sins, and make their land prosperous again."
Jeremiah 6:8: "Let these troubles be a warning to you, or else I will abandon you. I will turn your city into a desert; a place where no one lives."
The Lord always warns His people before He punishes them. Jeremiah 21:8: "I the Lord am giving you a choice between the way that leads to life and the way that leads to death."
I believe the drought and now these epidemics that are sweeping the world are a wake-up call. We must not ignore it! God has been very patient and longsuffering with us.
What are we going to do as a people? The answer is: Come back to God and humble ourselves. Let us call sin what it really is: a breaking of God's law.
It does not matter what culture we are living in. God's laws apply to every human being. No matter what ethnic group we belong to, we all need to repent and confess our sins. We must recognise that God is in charge and He rules this universe, and we have an obligation to do His Will. He made us; not we ourselves.
He wants the best for us. That is why He first took the step to send His Son to die for our sins. Accept Him today. He loves you.
