Get cracking with marijuana tourism

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Marijuana tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, thus making it an ideal product for further development of Jamaica's tourism sector.

Various countries have legalised this plant for its medical and recreational use, and it is one of the main contributing factors to their economic development.

For decades we have struggled and pondered about the implications of legalisation of this plant. The global spark of the industry presents yet another opportunity for Jamaica to show the world the potential and use of this product. We should then put various measures in place so as to capitalise on the millions that can be gained.

According to Colorado Annual Report 2013, in 2012, Colorado earned US$4.3 billion and saw the tourist industry benefiting from the creation of 144,600 jobs.

With decriminalisation and regulation, numerous jobs can be created in Jamaica.

We need to move with alacrity and fast-track the regulation of this industry to capitalise, so as to not lose well-needed foreign currency.
