Apology to Mr Boyne
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The tongue is a powerful weapon and so is the use of modern technology.
I refer to my letter sent to the editor, referencing your article titled 'The Bible ALLOWS for marital rape'.
Sir, I found the title shocking and though I read two-thirds of the article, I could not finish it as I allowed my emotions to get the better of me and I penned my vitriolic letter which subsequently was published. I did read the rest of your article but alas, it was too late.
I wish to apologise to you, the readers and those implicated in my letter.
There is no excuse for my hastiness but having followed the debates in the media on the subject of rape, I was incensed at the attitude and utterances of a number of our male politicians and others. Also the insensitive heading in In Focus November 9, 'Government by gang rape', I thought was in poor taste.
With these references in mind, I wrongly assumed your piece, on Sunday 23rd, was going to be more of the same.
Please accept my humble apology.
