Digicel responds to St Thomas SOS
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am writing in response to a letter that was published, ('SOS to LIME, Digicel from St Thomas') in The Gleaner on Friday, December 12, 2014, regarding access to the Internet from Albion.
The issue outlined by the Edwards family concerns fixed-line Internet - a service that Digicel currently does not provide to residences. Nonetheless, our team immediately contacted the Edwards family to get additional information to assist with our plans for further 4G deployment in West Albion, including the Llandewey area, in 2015.
Earlier this year, Digicel conducted a 4G expansion project to increase population coverage from 80 per cent to 92 per cent on our 4G mobile network islandwide. Guided by our needs assessment research, a total of seven new 4G mobile sites were deployed in St Thomas. With this exercise, we are pleased to share that St Thomas is now served by a total of 25 cell sites, 17 of which are 4G mobile, thereby delivering greater access to the Internet for the parish.
Our team is now conducting further analysis with a view to deploying 4G mobile in additional areas in St Thomas, including the upper Albion area where the Edwards family resides, in the coming months.
