Change JCF uniforms
THE EDITOR, Sir:
In order to change the image of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), changing the behaviour of the men and women - particularly, those on front-line duty - is not enough.
There also needs to be a change that can be seen visually. By that I mean, there should be a change in the uniforms worn by policemen and policewomen. The black pants/skirts, with red or blue seams, and the striped shirts, should be changed in order to show that the JCF is truly serious about changing its image.
Why not put the men and women of the JCF in a uniform that is more visually appealing and which, more closely, matches Jamaica's tropical culture and beauty? How about a yellow shirt, to represent Jamaica's plentiful sunshine and warmth; sky blue-coloured pants/skirt, to represent Jamaica's clear, blue skies; and light or dark green seams, to represent Jamaica's lush greenery?
Along with changing the attitudes of the men and women of the JCF, change the uniforms, too, Commish. It will make a difference!
