Well done Portland cops
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to Superintendent Wayne Cameron, head of the Portland police.
It was indeed heartening to read in today's Gleaner (January 6) that, "Portland is still by far the safest parish islandwide once again, ending the year with a single-digit murder toll".
I wish to offer my wholehearted commendations to you and the men and women under you command for the dedicated and tireless efforts in going beyond the call of duty and oftentimes working under challenging circumstances to ensure the safety and security of the lives and property of the residents of Portland.
I am pleased that the policing efforts, even with limited resources, have reaped this level of success.
As the member of parliament for West Portland, you can continue to rely on my support and have my assurance to lobby for the necessary resources for you and your team to achieve yet a further reduction in crime and violence. On behalf of the parish's constituents, the business community and the various organisations, I wish to express all our appreciation for the cordial working relationship we have enjoyed with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in the parish.
With best wishes for a peaceful and crime free 2015.
Daryl Vaz, MP
