We aren't dumb, Mr Knight
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to Peter Knight, CEO of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
My deepest concern with regard to the Negril breakwater plan is the manner in which your agency is treating the residents and business people of the resort town. You are accusing 'selected stakeholders' of confusing and misleading the public. Definitely not so!
We had plenty international experts giving enlightening suggestions and reports - events you and your agency have always been invited to, but never once attended.
We in Negril are not dumb, uneducated people who are just listening to the big guys from Kingston who say, "Jump!" and we jump.
Democracy means listening to an opposing opinion - and taking it seriously, which certainly has not happened with NEPA.
One more thing: You are suggesting that this project will be implemented in eight months. Tell me which governmental agency has ever achieved results within the given time frame, especially having the National Works Agency involved. Jane Issa is far closer with her suggestion of a 14-month disruption.
