Praise unsong heroic women
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Do you know what has happened to these women? I didn't hear their names being called as we celebrate the big, big International Women's Week.
I ask about giants like Mary Coore and Delrose Walters of the great City Mission Church of Blount Street, Hannah Town. These women went where many preachers would not go - among the poor and depressed; among the sick, the lame and the underprivileged.
With dedication and stamina, they transformed the lives of scores of gardeners, domestic helpers, handcart men, nurse maids and servants who, through faith and education, became major social contributors and leaders.
Why are we not calling out the names of these City Mission pioneers and the ARK which anchored hundreds of destitute Jamaicans who could not enter the doors of the stained-glass established Church.
We need to bawl out the names of Bishop Mary Coore, Bishop Delrose Walters and add names like Amy Bailey and Avis Henriques.
