Struggles of a university student
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Why is it so difficult to attend university? Why is that our Government here in Jamaica makes it so difficult to attend university? Why do young people have to go through so much hardship to obtain a university degree? All these questions are some that young people in Jamaica ask themselves.
The struggles are real. I attend a prominent university in Jamaica. The issues that are being faced by both staff and students have made the news every so often for the last couple months.
Attending the institution has been a struggle, in terms of my going on to internship and not obtaining a stipend from the Government. Yet I have rent to pay, groceries to buy, and also pay for transportation to arrive at work. The most terrible thing is that you are not only not receiving a stipend, but the school is asking you to pay tuition fees or a $10,000 penalty will be added each month.
What is the Government doing? Is it trying to help the future generation?
