Celebrity has a price!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was reading the Gleaner article, 'Are celebrities people too?' and thought I'd give my view. Of course, celebrities are people too, but the writer missed the point completely.
Most people aren't rich and famous, so we don't have to worry about privacy and tabloid news. Celebrities are usually very wealthy; they make their fortune from the talent, but also by being famous. The same people who are fans, finance their every move and allow them to live a life, most of us can only dream of - the jet-setting trips, rubbing shoulders with other celebrities, and the intense media attention, its a part of the package.
With social media, it becomes easier for celebrities to share their private lives and private thoughts. If they feed the public with wedding pics and private intimate thoughts, then of course there will be public interest. There are some celebrities who don't do this at all, or if they do, they are more discreet and limit and control how much they feed the public. These celebrities rarely if ever, speak about their partners, their love life, marriages, kids, or whatever else they do in private, they nurture their private life, and for them its easier to keep it as separate as possible from their public life.
So regarding Tessanne, yes of course people will talk, and it will make news. We wish her well no matter what, but celebrity does come with a price.
