Thrilled that O'Hara back on track

It is a delight to see that the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association and Penn Relays agreed to reinstate Michael O'Hara's amateur status with immediate effect, thereby allowing him to run at the Penn Relays.

His lawyers deserve commendation for having justice done. This young superstar is an asset to Jamaica and must be supported by all Jamaicans as he continues to grow.

I am also pleased that companies such as Digicel have seen the importance of, and have been proactive in, carefully supporting youth and junior athletes in Jamaica. I don't know the personal situation of O'Hara, but support of this kind from Digicel should be motivation for other companies to get on-board and assist athletes, not just to increase their sales figures, but to show their true corporate social responsibility.

On another note, the sporting community needs to seriously sit down and discuss the future of athletics in Jamaica. It appears as if some are holding on to old attitudes and are far behind on the realities of 21st-Century athletics.
