UTech too laid-back on accreditation

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I agree with Professor Carolyn Cooper on the issue of the University of Technology's (UTech) accreditation of programmes.

It's not just the dental programme; there are many others. I'm a third-year industrial engineering student, and since I started the programme, I have been told that the process of accreditation was under way. It's been four to five years since this programme has been offered.

They haven't been straightforward with us as students. No meetings have been kept to update us on the process.

Now having only a year left to complete my degree, I am worried - a sentiment shared by many other students.

I don't think the wider public has the knowledge and understanding of accreditation. As such, universities are laid back in getting courses accredited.
