Driving under the influence of ganja

Published:Wednesday | May 6, 2015 | 5:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As I was driving out of the Vineyards Toll Plaza heading eastbound, I happened to look to my right in time to notice a driver waiting to go westbound through the toll, lighting up what appeared to be a ganja spliff.

I must confess that the expression in my mind paralleled the word 'shoot' as I recognised that our new laws did not seem to address driving under the influence of hallucinogens. What if that particular spliff was of the seasoned variety or of the ilk of what those on the street call 'bad weed'?

I have never had the experience of being under the influence of weed, so I would like to know from someone who has been: Would you be comfortable driving on the same street as someone who was openly smoking weed while driving?

Please let me know so that advocacy can be made towards making driving and even flying a plane under the influence of weed a criminal offence.
