Has Fenton Ferguson lost his mind?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I do not mean to cause offence, but I now seriously wonder if Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson is not only delusional, but is probably affected by acute paranoia.
My viewpoint was affirmed after Dr Ferguson at a recent Jamaica House press conference claimed that there was a conspiracy by unnamed individuals aimed at dislodging him as minister of health. He went on to claim that the continued use of his very poor handling of the chikungunya virus to this day was a clear indication of the conspiracy against him.
I am not only appalled, but concerned about the minister's state of mind. As a member of the Cabinet, the prime minister must now give serious consideration to relieving the minister of his duties and encourage him to take some time off before he brings to an absolute end his already very low credibility and diminished trust in the minds of the public.
I actually feel sorry for him. With the health sector now completely wrecked by monumental mismanagement, I do not doubt that the minister may be under extreme stress and is unwilling to confront the fact that he is terribly ineffective and simply does not repose the leadership skills required to oversee the sector.
