Simplify test for driver's licence

Published:Saturday | May 9, 2015 | 5:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Why is it that a mechanical test is still required for us to get our general driver's licence? The vehicles made nowadays are not amenable to tinkering by the layman,

so why do we have to know about the engine? Besides, the engines today have changed significantly from the engines in the past.

For heaven's sake, we are doing a driving test, not a CSEC mechanical engineering exam!

I am appealing that the test requirements for a general driver's licence be amended to conform with a postcolonial generation, to which most of us Jamaicans now belong.
