Bailey boos out of order

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As a Jamaican, I was most embarrassed and ashamed at how we behaved at the Jamaica International Invitational meet at the National Stadium on Saturday.

What made it more distasteful and embarrassing is that the de facto sports minister was there, yet she did not see it appropiate to beckon to the fans not to boo US sprinter Ryan Bailey.

Would you like to invite someone to your home and the relatives embarrass him or her? No. We invited Mr Bailey here and this is how we treated a guest.

Mr Bailey showed decency to us, yet we showed him vulgarity. We did not exhibit any decorum.

The sports minister should come out and give a public apology to the US sprinter. What Mr Bailey did was something good for the sports. I enjoyed what he did and it is up to Usian Bolt to come better yet we take it personally and embarrass someone we invited to our country.
