Haiti deserves reparation
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I would like to commend Myrtha Desulme's short but salient and eye-opening article on the post-independence Franco-Haitian history ('President Hollande and France's debt to Haiti', Sunday Gleaner, June 7, 2015).
It was well-written, concise and coherent. It also reminds us of the clout of the white supremacist hegemony that remains alive and well in Western governments and corporations.
While other reparation and restitution claims vis-a-vis slavery are still nebulous, Haiti's compensation is far overdue. It's a 500-ton rainbow elephant in the room trumpeting at the deaf ears of North American-European world leaders who pride themselves as paragons of democracy and justice.
I am awaiting part two of the article with much anticipation.
