Polygamy the way to go
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Jamaica is an undercover polygamous society, and we have never been comfortable with bringing the truth out in the open.
It was as far back as 2012 that I was having conversations about this same topic with two different women - one in Kingston and the other in Clarendon - and these two (unconnected) women told me that every woman in Jamaica who says that she is single has at least one married man as a lover! That is considered the norm in Jamaica.
It's time that we start to take our heads from between our legs and stop lying to ourselves. Polygamy is the way forward, as shown in Al-Hajj Mekaeel Maknoon's column 'The case for polygamy' in The Sunday Gleaner of June 14, 2015.
In addition to the benefits mentioned in the Maknoon's column, when you now have three people working together - instead of two - you have a financially stronger household. What could be better than having more money coming into a household, especially given our tough economic times?
The extra money could be shared out among the three members (husband and two wives) of the household. Yes, money in everybody's pocket! Every polygamous household just gave themselves a raise of pay! Tell me which Jamaican household would not be better off with more money coming into the household?
