Special thanks to Digicel, Gov't

I would personally like to thank the Digicel Foundation and the Government of Jamaica for providing Special Olympics Jamaica with a world-class facility so that athletes with intellectual disabilities can train all year round.

It was heart-warming to see the turnout of athletes at the recent Special Olympics National Summer Games competing in basketball, volleyball, badminton and bocce on proper courts.

I see this as a turning point, a real change in perceptions and in attitudes toward people with intellectual disabilities. Our athletes, most of whom cannot even communicate with each other in their own language, can now work together and have fun together in harmony and friendship on the playing field. That inspires them, and it also inspires me.
