Road furniture?

Published:Thursday | June 18, 2015 | 6:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Thumbs up to the works ministry for words of warning on the consideration of charging motorists for damage to objects such as guard rails and signs.

However, there is concern - if only in small part - on how the issue was presented. The works minister was quoted as saying "road furniture". Was he referring to road infrastructure or road installations?

Dynamics of English is not sufficient to explain all changes taking place in the English language. We should not be so preoccupied with flimsy similarities between any two entities, only to end up overlooking their specific differences, including names.
