Don't 'divest' Cornwall Beach

Published:Wednesday | June 24, 2015 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I wholeheartedly support Councillor Charles Sinclair of the St James Parish Council in his opposition to the 'divestment' of Cornwall Beach, as reported in your paper of June 19, 2015.

Over the years, the birthright of Jamaicans has been sold off to foreigners for pieces of silver, in the name of development.

Although I have not been to Cornwall Beach in many decades, I still remember when I lived and worked in Montego Bay. I spent many of my day's off at that beach. I enjoyed the water, the patties and the Red Stripe beer and I really felt at home.

From the reports I see in the papers, the beaches in Jamaica are increasingly being 'privatised', that is being handed over to lucre crazy worshippers of capital.

I exhort Charles Sinclair and other members of the council of sound mind to stand firm and keep Cornwall Beach a beach for the people.
