JCDC distances itself from dancer diss

Published:Friday | June 26, 2015 | 6:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

With reference to a letter ('Dancers do not equate to dunce bats') from Ms Maria Hitchins, published in The Gleaner on Tuesday, June 23, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commis-sion (JCDC) wishes to apologise unreservedly for the comment made by the master of ceremonies at the World Reggae Dance Championship elimination show held at Mandela Park on Friday, June 19.

Neither the comments nor their interpretations represent the views of the JCDC.

The commission is cognisant of the hard work, dedication and discipline required for the art of dance from the perspective of both aspiring and accomplished individuals, as well as organisations that offer the necessary training.

Again, we offer our sincere apology to Ms Hitchins and all those who were in attendance. It is our aim, as always, to produce family-oriented programmes, activities and events that are of the highest calibre.
