Brown Burke cold, callous

Published:Friday | August 14, 2015 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am irritated about what Mayor of Kingston Angela Brown Burke has said about the traffic accident that happened in downtown Kingston and about the vendor who was mowed down on the sidewalk by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus. Brown Burke said she hoped this would be a lesson to others not to sell on the sidewalk.

This was a human being with flesh and blood that Mrs Brown Burke was talking about, a man who had a family to feed and to send back to school in September, a man who had been working for his honest bread.

It is shameful for the mayor to have said such a hurtful thing to the television audience. I bet that, if the victim were a family member of Mrs Brown Burke - her father, mother, nephew, sister, brother - she would spend the last dollar in her pocket to hire a high-profile lawyer to sue the JUTC and suck them dry.

Mrs Brown Burke owes an apology to the members of this man's family. She should think twice before she opens her mouth.
