Let's all vote for nobody

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is apparent that a general election will soon be upon us. No doubt there will be post-election concern expressed about low voter turnout.

My suggestion to improve this undesirable situation is as follows:

On every ballot paper, include a line with the letters 'NOTA'. This means 'None Of The Above'.

All those who currently refrain from voting would then have the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction with our current politicians.

My first thought is, what if NOTA received the majority of votes cast? Would that mean no one would be elected to Parliament?

On second thought, that might not be a bad outcome. Then we would become truly self-governing.
