Hospital staff to blame for babies' deaths
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The health sector is in crisis. I am in agreement with those who say that the current minister of health is one of the worst. However, if he should resign or be fired, it should not be about the18 babies who have died from two of our major hospitals.
Preliminary reports suggest that hospital management took two months before they made a report to the ministry and the ministry took another three weeks before responding, while withholding the said information from the minister. It is the hospital management and the ministry officials who should be held accountable. Obviously, the failure to report in a timely manner should not be a policy of any administration. Maybe the doctors were swamped with work so they were unable to document and report in a timely manner. The minister took action as soon as he heard the report, unlike previous occasions.
