Can’t afford to support the Reggae Boyz
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am a diehard Reggae Boyz fan. Even after the countless heartbreaks I have suffered, I keep hoping for the best.
For the first time since 1998, I think Jamaica has the best chance of qualifying for the World Cup, so I have made it my personal mission to support them as best as I can afford to. When I cannot make it to 'The Office', I am tuned in to my TV/radio and tuned out from everything else.
I would love attend the upcoming game against Panama, but with ticket prices going for a whopping $6,500 for grandstand, I am seriously rethinking this. I am yet to hear any local TVstation advertise the match, so I am assuming it is coming on Flow. Unfortunately, I do not have access to Flow as I live in Port Antonio.
While I may not understand the details of television rights and so forth, I cannot understand why when our national team is playing, it would not be carried on TVJ or CVM since everyone can watch those channels. It is unfair that only a select few will be able to enjoy the match from their homes.
Also, if it is that The Captain would like to see more support for the Boyz, why would the tickets not be made more affordable to the common man? I am not saying they should be dirt cheap, as football is a costly sport and our team needs the money, but wouldn't a full stadium at a lesser price be worth more than a half-empty stadium at a higher price?
Flow, Captain, step up and do something. The Boyz need their fans.
