Tired of corruption at Customs
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The prime minister and opposition leader both claim that they want to change this country, but yet still have done nothing about our Customs system. How can you want a better Jamaica, where we can, live, work, play and do business, when there is long-standing corruption yet to be tackled?
I use to shop a lot online, but in recent times, it's little to none. I can't buy something online and pay J$5,000, and when it reaches the island, I am forced to pay three times the price, with Customs claiming that you didn't pay J$5,000 for it. I bought something online for $1,100 and when it reached the post office, I was told to pay $7,000 for it.
Jamaicans abroad are terrified to send barrels here because of the fees they will have to pay to clear it. People can't carry stuff for their families because the animals at the airport who either beg or overprice. This is so not good for the country.
Madam Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, if you want us Jamaicans to vote, show us you're worthy of our votes. Why don't you stamp out one of the biggest and the longest-standing corruption rings in the country?
