Gleaner shameless in attacks on JLP

Published:Tuesday | December 8, 2015 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I condemn The Gleaner's editorial of Sunday, December 6, 2015 titled 'What commitments has Mr Shaw given'. What The Gleaner is attempting to do is to use its editorial to set up the people against the Jamaica Labour Party and Audley Shaw. I believe the people have seen the editorial for what it is.

Sunday's editorial was a shameless attempt by The Gleaner to shut up Audley Shaw for speaking out against what he believes is the suffering brought on by the International Monetary Fund dictates and the Government. Nothing is wrong with that.

I cannot believe that this is the same newspaper whose editor-in-chief, Garfield Grandison, came out and said that The Gleaner would adhere to good journalistic principles. Instead, all I have been seeing for the past couple of months or so is a newspaper that has a vendetta against the JLP, especially its leader.

I believe the time has come for The Gleaner to be bold and declare its hands. It needs to put everything to rest and tell us which party it is supporting.

The Gleaner's editorial, as well as others in the past, is one of the reasons why people are so sceptical and queasy about the Gleaner-RJR merger. Can you imagine what things are going to be like if both entities merge? It will be a nightmare for the JLP.
