Wickie Wackie needs street lights
THE EDITOR, Sir:
In the relatively peaceful community of Wickie Wackie, located it Bull Bay, St Andrew, there have been recent spikes of house break-ins and robberies. On numerous occasions while traversing my regular route, I observe the unusual presence of men foreign to the community. In most cases, I inform the police, who respond in relatively reasonable timing.
Now, the major concern is that at nights, there are males coming out of the bushes attempting to rob. On October 30, at about 7:30 p.m., my cousin was held up at gunpoint. The robber demanded his cell phone and cash. He was able to escape to a nearby house.
Incidents like this keep happening because the place is just too dark.
We suggest the following actions be taken:
1. Since the passage of Hurricane Sandy, the street lights in that vicinity have stopped working, with another fading away recently. Now, I'm not an electrician, but I believe that they just need a little servicing and bulbs. Fixing the lights would reduce the risk of persons walking into unsuspected attacks.
2. Periodical police patrols in the area on weekdays between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., and between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. These are the times when most persons are going to and from work.
