Looking forward to the new year

The Editor, Sir:

With the start of this new year, I would like to take the opportunity to say thanks. I know we, as a country, have not been relieved of all our troubles simply because we are now in a new year.

However, we should seek to use this moment as a catalyst for the change we want.

It is easy to become so tied down by negative thoughts and feelings that we lose hope. We can't afford to allow that to happen to us. Without hope, we are doomed to fail. Hope alone will not save us but, without hope, we are lost.

I chose to use this moment as we herald in this new year, to thank our prime minister, Portia Simpson Miller; our opposition leader, Andrew Holness; and all our politicians, for the work that they do.

Even if they, sometimes, slip up, I genuinely believe they all mean Jamaica and its people well. I want them to know that I, for one, am here praying for them, hoping they will find solutions to our ills in this new year. God bless Jamaica.
