A planning appeal
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I wish to use this medium at this very early point of the year to appeal to the powers that be to ensure we plan for a drought this year.
We should not forget what happened in 2015. The drought was terrible and there were serious water-usage restrictions.
Let us assume there will be a similar drought this year so that we can give ourselves some time to prepare for it.
Let us not pretend to be caught off guard when it happens. We should, as they say, take sleep and mark death. The climate is changing the world over, and we can no longer expect normal fair-weather conditions all year. We must begin, now, to take steps to plan for trouble. This is a matter of urgency, whether we want to accept it or not.
