JTA going in wrong direction
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The sitting president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) is an embarrassment to the teachers who elected him. It is clear that Norman Allen is a boy ushered into a man's job.
I am calling on the leadership of the powerful teachers' union to resign. Under the watch of Mr Allen, the JTA is going in the wrong direction, and he might very well turn out to be the worst president in many years. I am also calling on Mr Allen's handlers to sit with him and give him a lesson or two in leadership and management, as well as communication and public speaking.
It is no secret that I am a staunch critic of our teachers' union, and I am unapologetic of the hard stance I take against the association.
I am suggesting that the association develops an 'aspiring leaders' programme' that will see these individuals go through a period of coaching.
