Letter of the day: Has Lisa Hanna conspired to murder?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
My fraternal brother Edward Warmington referred to Lisa Hanna as Jezebel. I decided to go into the Old Testament of 1st Kings (chapter 21) to remind myself as to who was Jezebel.
Jezebel was the wife of the king of Samaria, Ahab. Naboth, a Jezreelite, had a vineyard near to the house of King Ahab and he requested of Naboth that he give him his vineyard so that he could have it for a garden of herbs. In return, Ahab would give him a better vineyard or its worth in money.
Naboth decided that he would not part with his vineyard. He told the king that the Lord forbade it and that he would not give him the inheritance of his fathers.
King Ahab was sad and his wife inquired of him the source of his concern. Jezebel reminded the king that he should arise and eat bread and let his heart be merry and that she would give him the vineyard of Naboth. She wrote letters in King Ahab's name and sealed them with the king's imprimatur and sent the letters to the elders and nobles. She requested that they proclaim a fast and set Naboth on high among the people and that they should bear false witness against him, using the sons of Belial, that he blasphemed against their god and the king and then carry him out and stone him to death.
The elders and nobles did as they were told. Naboth was killed and the dogs licked his blood.
Where does Lisa Hanna fall in 1st Kings 21: 1-21?
Does she wear a label of a Jezebel?
